I
have created 2 versions of the card game Triatrium, which
can only
be played from a special deck which I created which I call the Triatrium Deck.
Each deck contains 27 cards which consists of 3 cards from each of the
9 suits. There are 3 suits with 3 cards each, totally 9 cards (3 groups
of 3) then there are 3 of each of those 9 cards totalling 27 cards. The
first version of the game can be played (up to 3 players) with two
decks of 27 cards, but more than 3 players required 3 decks or more
decks. 3 decks
(totalling 81 cards which is 3X3X3X3) are
required for 2 or 3 players of the 2d version of Triatrium, then add
one deck for every player above 3 players.
There are 3 of all of the 9 cards in this foto, even tho only 1 of each
of the cards can be seen. This is the Triatrium Deck. Or to explain it
another way, here is a diagram:

The first version of the
Triatrium
card game:
Each player is dealt 9 cards. If 2 or 3 players are playing then only 2
decks are needed, but if more players are added, then successive decks
are required so that there are sufficient cards for each player to
complete their three suits. Every player is collecting the same 3
suits, and every players knows what the other players are collecting.
After each player is dealt 9 cards, the remainder of the deck is set in
their
midst, and one card is overturned, face up. The player who starts must
decide if he wants that card, but if not, can pick one up from the pile
(face down) and decide if he wants to keep that one or discard it, or
keep it then discard one from his hand which he will place face up on
the pile for the next player to choose whether he wants it or not. The
first player to complete 3
suits wins. (as shown in the photo)
The second
version of the
Triatrium card game:
Each
player collects three suits, but unlike in the first version of
Triatrium where there were 3
suits to collect, in version two there are 9 possible suits to
collect, with each player choosing which 3 he will collect.
This is why that for three players in this version of Traiatrium, three
decks must be used, otherwise there will not be enuff
cards available to each player to collect his suits. This is because it
is not known which player will collect which 3 suits, so that there
must be 3 cards of all of the 9 suits available as there will be
overlap between what the players are collecting. If
more than
3 players are playing, then additional decks must be added as needed.
In this version, a suit is 3 identicle cards of the same colour and
symbol, whereas in the first version each suit had the same colour but
3 different symbols, or the same symbol of 3 different colours. There
are 9 possibilities for a suit of 3 cards to be
collected by any player. In the above foto there are 9 different cards
shown, and any one of those cards can be selected as a suit, with all 3
cards of that suit being identicle. There are 3 symbols with 3 colour
each, then 3 of each of those cards. To create your own deck, any 3
colours and any 3 symbols can be used, but I chose symbols that feature
3 in them. You can buy blank cards (standard playeing card size) from
Amazon) in sets of 180 cards then get a permanent marker and create
your own cards. Have fun!
